Don’t Put a Plus Sign Where God Puts a Period

During the sermon this past Sunday, my pastor put an emphasis on God’s grace and mercy. God does not say we must grace plus something or faith plus something for us to be saved. The sermon came from Galatians where Paul was telling the church of Galatia that they were only to live under God’s law. It was not God’s law with man’s conditions.

Galatians 1, verse ten reads as follows:

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10 NIV)

This also made me reflect on Ephesians 2, where it is clear that our salvation is a gift. The scripture does not say it is grace or faith plus anything else. It is not even by our works, but truly we must remember Jesus is the sole source of our salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift from God – not by works, so that on one can boast.
