Scriptural Tidbit – The Book of James

The Book of James is full of so much wisdom. It provides key instructions regarding Christian maturity and urges believers to take responsibility for their own spiritual growth. Over the next couple of weeks, the Scriptural Tidbit will highlight scriptures from James starting with James, Chapter one, verses twenty-two through twenty-five.

But First, Who is James?

James is the half brother of Jesus being one of the sons of Mary and Joseph. He was an elder and leader of the church of Jerusalem. His book is composed of letters to Jewish believers offering practical pastoral advice. The overall theme of James is about the development of an enduring faith.

Listening and Doing, James 1:22-25 NIV

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”

Put Faith Into Action

As believers in Christ Jesus we must put God’s biblical teachings into action. We are to actively live out our faith each day.
