What the Bible Says About Anxiety

God does not want us to be anxious about anything. In a world where uncertainty prevails, it is sometimes hard not to be anxious. It is in our nature to want everything to be in perfect order. However, life brings ups and downs, twists and turns which take us down roads we never expected.

As women, we sometimes feel as if the weight of the whole world is on our shoulders. As we navigate periods of uncertainty, look to God and as the scripture says, cast your anxiety on Him.

Go to God in Prayer

When you become overwhelmed, lay your fears and anxieties at God’s feet and leave them there.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6 NIV)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9 NIV)

“So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body . . .” (Ecclesiastes 11:10 NIV)

“Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Lord, save me!” The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. (Psalms 116:2-7 NIV)

Be Strong in God During times of Anxiety

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.(Proverbs 12:25 ESV)

Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” (Isaiah 35:4 ESV)

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1 ESV)

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? (Matthew 6:27 ESV)

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV)

A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Psalms 121:1-2 (ESV)

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.” (Jeremiah 17:7 ESV)

My Prayer

God, grant us the strength and courage to be steadfast in our faith such that we are not anxious. Help us to stand on your word and know that you care for us and do not want us to have a spirit plagued by anxiety. Amen.
