God’s World

The other day I was listening to a version of the song, “If This World Were Mine” originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in 1967. It is one of my favorite songs as I love how the lyrics express a deeply rooted love between two people.

A Few of The Lyrics

If this world were mine, I’d place at your feet

All that I own; you’ve been so good to me

If this world were mine

I’d give you the flowers, the birds and the bees

For with your love inside me, that would be all I need

If this world were mine

I’d give you anything.

A Deep Love Between Two People

Imagine sharing a love with someone who is willing to show this level of commitment. A person who is willing to give you everything because of what you have given to them. Moreover, this love is steeped in devotion and wrapped in security. There is no fear in saying I love you because the love is real. It is heartfelt, unselfish, a love so deep that there is nothing they would not do for each other. It is a love that doesn’t need extravagant gifts, the gifts are from nature; flowers, the birds and the bees. The love is sweetened by the honey from the bees and reaches new heights like the birds soaring high in the sky. Each touch point with nature revealing a love that is real and true.

God’s Love for Us

This song speaks of love based on a willingness to give everything to the one you love, as well as laying the world at their feet. That’s the type of love God has for us.

“. . . together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:18-19 NIV)

This scripture is saying that God’s love surpasses our ability to understand how deep he feels for us as his children. He gave his only Son so that we may live an abundant life in him and always experience the fullness of his love and care.

God does not have to say, if this world were mine, I would give you anything because

“the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” (Psalms 24:1-2 NIV)

Every day, we wake up and experience the splendor of this world, given to us by God. We know his love is beyond anything we could ever measure.

My Prayer

Thank you God for an abounding love, an unselfish love, a love that is as sweet as honey and soars as high in the sky as the birds over our heads. I thank you for giving us a world filled with splendor beyond measure. We are truly blessed to be your children because this world is yours, and we never have to wonder by saying “if” this world were yours because it is. Amen.
