I belong to an Internet Bible study group with some amazing and dynamic, faith-based ladies, but all are welcome, there is no discrimination in studying the Word of God. The group leader broke down the Book of Revelation and when I say she broke it down, she broke it down chapter by chapter and verse by verse (Shout-out to May -Praise & Prayer). In studying the Bible, you must be prepared for what God reveals. It is not always easy to read and digest. After that study was complete, I saw the Book of Revelation as a wakeup call to God’s people. Are we ready for God’s judgement? Are we ready for a new beginning in Jesus Christ?
What made me Afraid?
Initially, what caused me to fear the Book of Revelation? The fear came from the fact that this book in the Bible signaled the end, a finality to life as we know it. It highlighted death and destruction. The fear further stemmed from all God revealed in how the world would be judged and punished for wrongdoing and being outside of his will. Revelation was God giving us insight into what it would mean in the end to be outside of his grace; in other words, to have picked the wrong side in how we lived our life. God has given us free will and the knowledge of good and evil. It is our choice to do what is right and pleasing in his sight. The path to destruction is wide, but the path to truth and light is narrow; and always riddled with obstacles from the enemy every step we take.
Every Day is A Choice
Every day we must make choices that impact our walk with God. Every day, the enemy fights for a win, anything that he can use against us on this journey. If we fall into the traps set for us, then we can end up on the wrong side.
As we studied, I thought about all the bad things happening in the world. Mistreatment of children, sexual exploitation of women, racism, war, immortality, a lust for endless pleasure, putting off today for tomorrow, the next high and I could go on and on.
There appears to be no fear of God’s judgement, but when you read and study Revelation you realize that God will judge and that choices have consequences. If you have chosen Satan and taken the mark of the beast, you will be tormented. You will truly know there is a hell and there is damnation.
A New Beginning
Fortunately, for believers in Christ, this is not an ending, but a new beginning that will emerge from the ashes. A place with no suffering and no death. A place that will provide an opportunity to bask in God’s glory day and night for those who have loved Him and done His will on Earth. A world that will not end.So, the fear I had about an ending, a time of reckoning will be ushering in a new beginning.
There is nothing to fear. There is only a time to be with God and to have eternal life. Fear happens if you find yourself outside of the book of the Lamb, if your name is missing because you cared more about the things of the world. You were not putting your focus on the things of God. I no longer have fear and anguish over what is written in the Book of Revelation because there is a new beginning.
I love God and I try to live my life as a blessing showcasing his goodness and mercy. I’m going to strive for greatness not in how the world judges being great but how God judges being great. Revelation is a warning to us of what’s to come if we chose the wrong side. It is also a proclamation of what life will be like with Jesus Christ, a life of new beginnings.
Scriptural Reference:
“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 22:3-5)
So, prepare for the new beginning in Jesus, a restoration of Eden, as proclaimed in the Book of
Revelation. Be Ready! To God be the glory. Amen.
